These are words and phrases  you may come across when looking for a job.


Apply in Person:
Go to the business directly to apply, dress appropriately.
Benefits: These can include paid vacation, sick leave, health insurance, child care and more. Not all jobs have benefits.
CDL: Certified Drivers License, required for most truck and delivery jobs.
C/O:  Care of- part of address to direct mail to the right person in a business.
Cover Letter: A letter you write to an employer that highlights your interest in the job, and explains why they should hire you.
Curricula vita (C.V.): Another term for resume.
DOT:  Dictionary of Occupational Terms
Job description: The full details of the job, which typically don't fit within a newspaper ad.
Letter of Interest: Similar to cover letter, that explains why you are interested in the job
Min. Quals.: Minimum qualifications-the least amount of skills you must already have.
OOH:  Occupational Outlook Handbook
Pay based on experience:  Your salary will depend on what you made at      previous jobs.
Personnel Department: The department in a company that handles the hiring and firing, as well as issues about your job details.
Profit Sharing: A system by which employees are paid a share of the profits of the business where they are employed-usually outlined in advance.
P/T: Part-time
Resume: A page of information about your job history, skills, school history, and references.
Salary History: What you have made at previous jobs.
Sick Leave: Paid time if you are sick.
Sign on Bonus: Upfront money for accepting the job.
Will Train: No experience is necessary to apply for the job, you will be trained.
